Our History

Founded in 1881 by ex-Dulwich College alumni as an exclusive gentleman’s sporting club. We have come a long way since then in so many ways. Hence that means we have rather a lot of history. Use our timeline to discover and explore the parts of interest

Local Rides & GPX routes

Nowadays ride reports and photographs are mostly shared on our social media accounts. However you can find older ride reports that give you a flavour of our routes and destinations. We recorded GPX files that may help club leaders and others plan future rides. Some members included hikes without bikes

Club & Member Tours

The club has organised tours for most of existence and continues to today. We have an annual tour either abroad or in the UK. Members also organise their own tours or with other groups. These have included most of Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Far East.

Annual Club Dinners & Prizes

The Club Dinner is the social highlight of the year. Held in February or March it includes the prize giving of our great collection of trophies These are for both achievement on and off the bicycle. We also have an annual Christmas lunch and, of course – the AGM.

Anerley BC Club Handbook

Gazette, Bugle & Other Publications

The Anerley Gazette is the official record of the club which moved online after 2011. The Bugle was the weekly newsletter in the pre-social media age. We have an handbook and other publications covering much of our history.

Fettle Corner

A well maintained bike is a pleasure to ride and is less likely to disrupt a club ride. The knowledge of how to fix things, some rather ingenious improvisations on the roadside and what lights to bring taps on over a hundred year experience. Share them here.
